Single Breaker

What are circuit breakers? They are a life and property saving electrical disconnect device that have reduced accidents and deaths for decades. In the early days, electricity was installed willy-nilly with a system called knob and tube wiring. In fact, you can still find this rather archaic system in use in some of the more vintage homes in the northeast to this day. This system worked fine at the time to deliver the limited amount of power needed in, what was at that time, a modern home.

However, as electrical demand grew and more and more devices and appliances were added that drew more and more current, it was discovered that the power lines coming into the home could and would overheat. In those days, there were many thousands of devestating and deadly house fires. Fortunately, a man named Thomas E. Murry came along and realized most of this could be avoided, and many lives saved, by setting up a box with fuses that would cut power when the wire began to overheat. Back in those days, this was called a fuse box, and they employed single-use fuses that had to be replaced everytime they were triggered because the process destroyed them.

Que the industrial revolution, and with that, the invention of the circuit breaker. Unlike fuses which arre destroyed when hit with a surge or overheat, circuit breakers can be reset any number of times and offer a lifetime of use for the modern homeowner.
